Amtrak has reopened its tracks outside Baltimore following an accident that killed a teenage girl this morning. A spokeswoman says trains are expected to be on time this evening, but that was not the case for much of the day.

The accident happened at around 9:00 this morning. Baltimore County police say 14-year-old Ann Marie Stickle was walking along the tracks with a friend on her way to school, when the Washington-bound train struck her from behind. No one on board the train was injured.

Trains traveling between Wilmington, Del., and D.C. were held for almost 2 hours in both directions as police investigated. By noon all tracks had been reopened, but delays continued and some trains were canceled all together.

An Amtrak spokeswoman says all passengers were given tickets on later trains, and she expects trains to be running on schedule this evening.
