By David Schultz

Sometime early this morning (authorities aren't sure when), a car skidded off Rock Creek Parkway near P Street and crashed into the adjacent stream with its driver trapped inside.

Park Police spokesperson David Schlosser says a jogger saw the car just before 11:00 a.m. and called police. "I think that, had we not received that call we may not have seen it," says Schlosser, "because it was so hard to find that vehicle."

Schlosser says the car had been submerged in frigid water for hours and sheets of ice were starting to form around it. But he says rescue crews were able to save the driver, Joshua Kuhlman, a 22-year-old from Arlington. He was taken to George Washington University Hospital in grave condition and was later pronounced dead.
