When he's not grappling with a budget shortfall, the new Chairman of the Arlington County Board, Jay Fisette, says one of his main priorities will be to make Arlington more bike-friendly.
"I've got my bike," says Fisette. "I've got it geared up." Fisette wants to add to the district's bike sharing program to create a regional bike sharing network. If he's successful, it will be possible to rent a bicycle in Arlington, ride it across the Potomac and drop it off in D.C.
"The district was the first out of the box," says Fisette, "and they've done a really nice job of piloting that in downtown D.C." "And now we have begun to work with the district and collaborate."
The program will be funded through a federal grant. Fisette says it will be operating by early summer.
