Poetry teachers from around the country gathered recently in Harrisonberg, Va., for the national "Furious Flower" poetry conference at James Madison University. They came to learn from former Poet Laureate of Maryland, Lucille Clifton, whose explorations of race, womanhood and spirituality earned two nominations for the Pulitzer Prize.
