After numerous delays and postponements, the Council is scheduled to cast a final vote tonight. They'll decide whether or not to allow a slot machine parlor at Arundel Mills Mall in Hanover.

With slot machines expected to generate hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue, some state legislators believe the financial futures of both Anne Arundel County and the state of Maryland may rest on tonight's vote. Joining in on that vote will be the Council's newest member, Charles Ferrar, the owner of a liquor store in Annapolis.

Ferrar will fill a vacant seat on the seven-member council, which he won Thursday night after being selected by the remaining six council members. Ferrar was not available to comment on this story yesterday, but the Baltimore Sun reports he does support the Arundel Mills proposal.

He'll be sworn in tonight, a few hours before the big vote.
