Videos showing a plain clothes D.C. police detective confronting a crowd during a snowball fight have turned viral on the internet.
The officer in the videos exits his vehicle and unholsters his gun as he approaches the crowd throwing snowballs at his Hummer. "He's got a gun? This dude has a gun in his hand," a man in the video is heard saying.
It happened Saturday afternoon on the corner of 14th and U Streets in Northwest D.C. A large crowd of revelers including adults with anti-war banners were taking part in an organized neighborhood snowball fight.
Robin Bell was at the scene and taped one of several videos posted online. "At worst, it was an anarchist kid throwing a snowball at an SUV," says Bell. Bell says there was no way for people to know beforehand the driver of the Hummer was a police officer.
"At no time should that officer at any point [have] felt 'my life is in danger, I need to use lethal force,'" says Bell.
D.C. police say they intend to conduct a full investigation.
