The National Zoo in Washington is getting its new director from Zoo Atlanta.
Dennis Kelly has been Zoo Atlanta's president and CEO since 2003. He has overseen the birth of the zoo's first two giant panda cubs and raised more than $40 million in public and private funds. Kelly has a bachelor's degree from Georgia Tech and an MBA from Harvard.
In his new job, Kelly will oversee the zoo's 163-acre facility in Rock Creek Park and the 3,200-acre Conservation and Research Center in Front Royal, Virginia.
The National Zoo has 450 full-time staff and sees nearly 2 million visitors a year. Kelly takes over February 15th.
