The sledding has begun at Chevy Chase Elementary School in Montgomery County, Md. Large, fluffy snowflakes are falling throughout the D.C. region this afternoon.

Many of the area's major roads have been treated and are clear of snow, but the secondary roads are starting to see some accumulation.

NBC4 Meteorologist Chuck Bell says snow fall levels could reach up to four inches in the city and six inches in the north west suburbs.

That's good news for six-year-old Caroline Mowry, who says she loves winter weather. "When everything's like white, you don't know where you're going. It's really cool," she says. "It feels like you're in like a different dimension."

NBC4 is predicting the snow storm will taper out by around 8:00 or 9:00 p.m. tonight.
