The Board of Public Works approved the purchase in Allegany and Garrett counties of property within the Savage River State Forest. The cost was about $366,000. The Department of Natural Resources says the property contains sensitive wetlands rare mountain peat and unusual red spruce forest.
The state also bought 30 acres as an addition to the Green Ridge State Forest and accepted a donation of nine acres from the Nature Conservancy as an addition to the Potomac State Forest.
