National Capital Planning Commissioners had their first look at plans for the Museum of African American History and Culture.

The museum will sit on five acres bounded by Constitution and Madison Avenues and 14th and 15th streets. And while a number of commissioners praised the design, they also said they're concerned about maintaining the character of buildings already there. David Adjaye, lead architect, says his team did consider what he calls the "the majesty of the space."

The museum is expected to cost approximately $500 million, and the architects have another six months to work before submitting their final plan.
