By Matt McCleskey

Virginians who are delinquent on back taxes have only a few days left to settle up with the state during the amnesty period, which began in October and ends on Saturday.

During this time, individuals and businesses in Virginia who owe back taxes can waive half the interest they owe and forgo all penalties. Those who do not pay up during the amnesty period will face an additional penalty of 20 percent.

Online payments can be made through midnight Saturday at Get Square VA. Mailed payments need to be postmarked no later than December 5th.

To help delinquent taxpayers meet the deadline, the Virginia Department of Taxation's call center will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. through Friday. It will take calls through midnight on Saturday.
