UPPER MARLBORO, Md. (AP) Preliminary data shows $400 million in federal stimulus cash is going to local government and businesses in Prince George's County. County Executive Jack Johnson says the cash infusion has helped him avoid laying off hundreds of workers.

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) Maryland's governor says state schools were largely spared from budget cuts last time but now the crunch is coming. Gov. Martin O'Malley says the school superintendents should start searching hard for savings because of a looming $2 billion budget gap.
