Virginia Says Its Prepared For Worst

If a pandemic or another major disaster occurs, the state of Virginia is prepared. The commonwealth has developed tools to address shortages of medical staff and other resources in the event a pandemic or disaster creates them.

A planning guide for critical resource shortages was put together by the Virginia Department of Health, Troutman Sanders LLP, and the Virginia Hospital and Healthcare Association. Sentara Norfolk General Hospital served as a pilot site for implementing the guide.

The one-year project was funded by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The state health department says a toolkit to help providers prepare for critical resource shortages, and an implementation guide, were also developed.
