D.C. Mayor Adrian Fenty made a brief appearance at the 23rd annual AIDS Walk Washington, but not every activist is satisfied he's doing enough to fight the epidemic.
Just before the Walk Saturday morning, Adrian Fenty took the stage at Freedom Plaza for a brief pep talk. Kevin Naff, who edits the gay-community newsletter, the Washington Blade, isn't impressed.
"We don't hear from him directly. We hear from spokes people, we hear from press releases," says Naff. "There are certain times when it's appropriate for the Mayor to take a stand and use his bully pulpit and to be the face of the government response to a crisis."
Naff credits Fenty for funding new testing programs but says the Mayor needs to make himself more accessible and responsive to the gay activist community.
