Play associated audio

The board of supervisors is calling this week Try Transit Week in Fairfax County. Part of a statewide effort, this program coincides with CarFree Day, which is today.

The hope for the county is for residents to avoid driving alone and use other options to get to work, such as Metrobus, carpool or riding a bike.

It's estimated that people using public transit save $9,000 a year by not having to buy fuel or pay for parking or maintenance.
