Internationally Recognized Astrophysicist Appointed To Smithsonian Board of Regents

The president of Purdue University is the newest member of the Smithsonian Institution's Board of Regents.

President Obama signed a resolution today appointing France Cordova to the Board of Regents. She is an internationally recognized astrophysicist, who has been the president of Purdue since 2007. Before that, she was chancellor at the University of California, Riverside.

From 1993 to 1996, Cordova was chief scientist at NASA, where she received the agency's highest honor.
