Maryland Homeless Shelter Gets An Upgrade

The Stepping Stone homeless shelter in Rockville, Maryland inhabits a mansion that's nearly 100 years old. New renovations are bringing it into the 21st Century.

More than 100 volunteers from the non-profit Rebuilding Together and the Choice Hotel chain worked to upgrade the white mansion tucked among apartment complexes just off of Rockville Pike. Choice CEO Steve Joyce, who spent the day shoveling stone, says combating homelessness is a natural fit for a hotel chain.

The shelter received new energy efficient appliances, landscaping, and carpet.
