Federal prosecutors say a man from Maryland has been charged with sexually assaulting women he met through Craigslist. 23-year-old Edgar D. Romero of Bladensburg faced arraignment on sexual abuse, kidnapping and numerous other charges.

A grand jury returned a 40-count indictment against Romero. Prosecutors say Romero and an unknown accomplice may have contacted women through Craigslist ads for erotic services.

Prosecutors say they suspect two people were luring women to a Washington hotel, pulling out a knife or gun and robbing them. Prosecutors charge Romero with the sexual assault of two victims and say he may have helped his accomplice sexually assault another.
