A former lawmaker convicted of federal corruption is filing for Chapter 7 bankruptcy protection.

Chapter 7 bankruptcy means Jefferson has more debt than assets. Forms filed last week in federal bankruptcy court show that he and his wife owe roughly 50 creditors between $1 million and $10 million dollars.
