Kaye Kory is a veteran member of the Fairfax County School Board. She's a Democrat running in a part of Fairfax where nearly two out of every three voters chose Barack Obama in last year's presidential election. Kory defeated incumbent Delegate Bob Hull in the Democratic primary. Now she's running against Republican Danny Smith in the general election.
Smith is openly gay and supports same-sex marriage, a stance that puts him at odds with other Virginia Republicans. Kory says there's no gap between her and Smith on this issue.
"We differ on every other issue," she says. "And yes, we do have the same opinion on advancing rights for gays."
Voters in eastern Fairfax County will decide between Kory and Smith this November.
