New Framework Will Be Foundation For Teachers' Evaluations in D.C.

Chancellor of D.C. Public Schools, Michelle Rhee, says a new framework will help teachers understand how they will be evaluated.

The Teaching and Learning Framework will be the foundation for a new teacher evaluation system. It offers specific classroom expectations including the percentage of children on task and with what frequency the teacher redirects bad behavior.

Rhee says in more than 50 focus group meetings with teachers last year, many said they didn't think the evaluation system was effective.

While George Parker, president of the Washington Teachers Union, supports the framework, he says teachers must be provided ongoing professional development.

School begins for tens of thousands of D.C. public school children on Monday.
