Bilingual Charter School Will Close Because of Low Enrollment

Play associated audio

A bilingual English and Spanish charter school in D.C. has decided to close, because of low enrollment. The D.C. Public Charter School Board unanimously approved a request by the leaders of Academia Bilingue de la Communidad to relinquish their charter at the end of this month.

The school had struggled with low enrollment during the previous school year. The school failed to attract enough students for the upcoming year and the charter school leaders said there was a real possibility of running out of money during the 2009-1010 academic year, and having to shut down.

Last year City Lights Public Charter School closed mid year because of the same reason.
