D.C. Delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton says work uncovering buried munitions in Spring Valley will begin again soon and will continue until clean up is complete. This comes after trace amounts of the chemical agent mustard was recently discovered in the District.

Delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton met with the head of the Army Corps of Engineers about the small quantity of mustard agent discovered in a glass flask in northwest D.C., near American University. She says it was found buried about two feet, was not in a heated or vaporous condition and there was no threat to public health.

Workers at the site didn't show any symptoms. During World War I, mustard gas was used to cause blisters, temporary blindness and breathing problems. It could be fatal in high doses.
