February 12, 2008 - One D.C. polling place is reporting record voting turnout in today's Potomac Primaries.

February 12, 2008 - In the District, wind and sleet are not stopping voters from casting their ballots in todays Potomac Primaries. Driver Joseph Brown takes his time as he escorts a group of elderly voters off a bus in front of the church. They range in age from 65 to a spry 94 and live at the Sunrise Center just a few blocks away. Senior Elise Fischer has a cast on her leg and uses a walker. Driver Brown, says yes, he will be back. He estimates that some 200 seniors have signed up to take the shuttle so they too can cast their ballots. The captain of precinct 17 says he believes they've had a record turnout so far this year at least 2,500 voters out of 5,000 registered voters have cast their ballots.

February 12, 2008 - (Feb 13) HOW OLD IS A HERO? Midway through African American History Month, the Smithsonian Discovery Theatre presents "How Old is a Hero? A Children`s Civil Rights Play." This special event, organized by the Smithsonian Associates, sheds light on the contributions children have made to the Civil Rights Movement. Staged at the Adventure Theatre in historic Glen Echo Park in Maryland, the spirited play honors African-American children, from Ruby Bridges and Claudette Colvin to Ernest Green. Audiences can sing along as the cast delivers inspiring songs from the civil rights movement. Performances kick off tomorrow morning at 10 and 11:30, with an additional performance at 1 p.m., featuring tours of sites in the park where civil rights protests took place.
(Feb 13, 15-17) LOVE IN THE TIME OF TROUBADOURS In honor of Valentine's Day, the Folger Shakespeare Library presents "Seven Songs of Love," a romantic musical romp through the 13th century. From courtly melodies to erotic ballads and lively dance tunes, the concert explores how emotion and passion were expressed through music. This "love" of the past comes to life tomorrow and over the weekend, performed by an ensemble of the Folger Consort. Wednesday`s concert will be preceded by a seminar that explores the lives of the composers and their world.

Opening tomorrow night, this sizzling play, written by Alan Ball, creator of HBO's Six Feet Under and winner of a Oscar for his screenplay of "American Beauty," follows the lives of two men in L.A. - one white, one Middle Eastern - as they probe issues of ethnicity and examine their search for a sense of belonging. Studio Theatres staging and direction bring this sassy performance to the cutting-edge.
February 12, 2008 - Lawmakers in Maryland are looking at Governor Martin O'Malley's energy conservation plans. Committees in both the House and Senate are set to take up several of the governor's energy proposals. One of the bills is designed to reduce per capita electricity consumption and peak demand by 15 percent by the end of 2015. Lawmakers will also look at investing in clean energy technologies with money earned through pollution credits. O'Malley has not proposed a bill to cap carbon emissions, as some suspected he would.

February 12, 2008 - Senator Barack Obama scored an impressive victory in Maryland's Democratic primary. As the crowd at McGinty's pub in Silver Spring counted down the Maryland polls closing, they anticipated the inevitable projection. The fact that Obama won wasn't a big surprise but the estimated margin of victory in Maryland stunned the supporters here. Before the night ended, several of Obama's key Maryland surrogates rallied the rowdy crowd.
