Lean & Hungry Theater: As You Like It
Sunday, June 9, 2013 @5:00pm
On Sunday, June 9 WAMU 88.5 and Washington, D.C.'s only radio drama company, Lean & Hungry Theater, will present a special live-to-air broadcast of Shakespeare's "As You Like It" at American University's Woods-Brown Amphitheater.
The one-hour radio production will be performed in front of a live audience and broadcast live on WAMU 88.5 from 6 to 7 p.m. The company uses live sound effects and original music to create a contemporary interpretation.
Lean & Hungry Theater sets Shakespeare's classic comedy, "As You Like It" in the flower-child era of the 1960s. Banished from the well-bred, wealthy halls of their childhood home, Celia and Rosalind seek refuge at the Arden Music Festival, disguised as concert-goers. For a few whirlwind days of peace, love and music, hippies and rockers, lovers and clowns woo, philosophize, and generally enjoy the freedom of life away from the constraints of stuffy society.
Bring a picnic and see how Shakespeare is turned into "a radio play" that anyone can understand - from kids to seniors.
