88.3 Ocean City: Helping the elderly live active and productive lives

Maintaining Active Citizens is a nonprofit organization dedicated to addressing the needs of aging citizens in Dorchester, Somerset, Wicomico and Worcester counties in Maryland. MAC is dedicated to the principle that older persons are entitled to lives of dignity, well-being and full participation in society. In all four counties, the organization operates senior centers where aging citizens can access health and nutrition services, fitness classes, employment counseling, and receive referrals for other resources. MAC also links caregivers of older persons to resources and support services to help them care for their aging loved one. Through the Senior Care program, MAC helps older persons access personal care, housekeeping, and other services that can help them remain in their homes. At the Parsons Day Center, MAC offers exercise, art, music, and social activities for individuals with Alzheimer's and other conditions causing memory impairment.

A 3-D printer is being credited with helping to save an Ohio baby's life, after doctors "printed" a tube to support a weak airway that caused him to stop breathing. The innovative procedure has allowed Kaiba Gionfriddo, of Youngstown, Ohio, to stay off a ventilator for more than a year.
