Play associated audio

Open Arms Housing (OAH) is a non-profit organization that seeks resources for, and transforms the lives of, women who have lived in the shelters and on the streets of Washington D.C. OAH is dedicated to providing housing for women who have previously been overlooked by the current housing programs and services for the homeless. Single women are housed in renovated apartment buildings in Washington, D.C., and sign a lease for their own efficiency apartment. OAH operates under a Housing First approach, which holds that all individuals are entitled to safe and decent housing. Of the 19 women housed, who averaged eight years of homelessness, none have returned to homelessness.
