Walt Whitman and the Civil War

Dr. Carrol Peterson, Emeritus Professor of English at Doane College in Nebraska, will present a Living History Program, "Walt Whitman and the Civil War," at 4 p.m.  March 24, at the Athenaeum, 201 Prince Street, Alexandria, VA 22314. Dr. Peterson will present Walt Whitman "in person" as he talks about his experience as a volunteer nurse at D.C. area hospitals. This 90-minute program will present some of Whitman’s Civil War writings, including Drum Taps and the prose journal Memoranda During the War, as well as selections from the 12-poem volume Leaves of Grass.

There is no admission fee, though voluntary donations for the support of the Northern Virginia Fine Arts Association and the Athenaeum will be accepted at the door.
