Area organizations act locally to affect people and protect the environment

EcoStewards Alliance helps people in the Washington metropolitan area focus on how the individual choices they make affect the environment and teaches them to reduce their carbon footprints. Their programs include discussion groups; training sessions to show people how to convert their landscaping into “green-scapes” that sustain local wildlife; nature outings to educate people about the flora, fauna, geology, and geography that are specific to this region; and workshops that offer opportunities to reflect on the importance of the natural environment.

Tree Fredericksburg is a non-profit organization that plants and maintains trees throughout Fredericksburg, Va. The group offers education and training on the proper way to plant and care for trees, including watering, mulching, and pruning. It seeks to educate people about the importance of trees to the environment, as well as the economic benefits they can provide, such as lowering home-energy usage and decreasing storm-water runoff.
