The Diane Rehm Show with Special Guest Carl Kasell

Live at the Jack Morton Auditorium Tue., Feb. 2, 2010

Diane Rehm interviewed Carl Kasell live at the Jack Morton Auditorium, located at George Washington University.

Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2010 at 7:00 p.m.

Two of National Public Radio's most revered journalists and celebrities met onstage for a lively conversation on February 2. Diane asked about Carl's 50 years in broadcasting, his decision to retire from the NPR Newscast Unit, how NPR has changed since he started in 1975 and what lies ahead for the venerable broadcaster. In addition, the audience asked questions about everything from the most emotional stories Carl has covered to how advancing technology has changed the media landscape and the nature of reporting.

Carl Kasell retired from the NPR Newscast Unit on December 31, 2009, after 30 years of waking up at 1:05am to anchor the top of the hour news on Morning Edition. He joined NPR as a part-time newscaster in 1975 and was on staff by 1977; he did the first newscast during the debut of Morning Edition in November 1979, and has been with the program since. Kasell found his second calling – and one that's won him adoration from millions -- as official judge and scorekeeper on Wait Wait...Don't Tell Me! He will continue in that role for NPR.
