Meymo Lyons has been pivotal in transforming WAMU 88.5 News into a vibrant, fast-paced newsroom with a strong focus on accountability journalism. Lyons joined the station in 2007 as Assignment Editor and was tasked with the goal of creating a news operation combining the best in-depth, long-form stories with the most relevant daily news coverage.

Under her guidance, WAMU 88.5 News has gained a reputation as one of the most hardworking and enterprising news teams in the business. Promoted to Managing Editor in 2012, Lyons oversees a team of reporters recognized as creative storytellers and experts on their beats.

Since then, they have won numerous awards, including two National Society of Professional Journalist Awards; a National Edward R. Murrow Award for a joint investigation with the Center for Public Integrity; 11 Regional Edward R. Murrow Awards; and 34 Regional Associated Press Awards, including Outstanding News Operation of the year in 2014.

Lyons is an award-winning radio and television journalist in her own right with 27 years of experience in broadcast news, much of leading successful newsrooms in Michigan. She served 13 years as a member of the board of The Associated Press Broadcast Association of Michigan, and was president of the board for five years. She is currently a member of the board for The Chesapeake Associated Press Broadcast Association.
