At WAMU 88.5 full-time since October 2001, Lisa soon established WAMU 88.5's midday local newscasts. She currently does both feature and breaking news spot reporting.
With a degree in print journalism from Pennsylvania State University in University Park, Pa., Lisa Nurnberger headed for Alaska in 1989 as the Public Information Officer for the Volunteer Response Center at the site of the Exxon Valdez oil spill. Her career in public radio began two years later at KOTZ in Kotzebue, a tiny Eskimo village north of the Arctic Circle, and continued at KCAW in Sitka, until her return to the lower 48 in 1997.
Lisa began freelancing with WAMU shortly thereafter, while also working at National Native News, airing stories on NPR stations across rural America. Later at WTOP Federal News radio web site, she covered congressional hearings and other news at the U.S. Capitol. Lisa can be reached at lnurnberger@wamu.org.
