Kavitha Cardoza

Kavitha joined the WAMU 88.5 local news team in April 2008 after working for almost six years as a reporter/anchor at the public radio stations of the University of Illinois at Springfield.

Kavitha most recently served as the Springfield Bureau Chief at WUIS/WIPA-FM, and was also an adjunct faculty member of the school's Department of Communication. She designed and taught classes on "Interviewing, Speech Communication, and News Gathering" and writing for undergraduate students.

Kavitha holds an M.S. in Broadcast Journalism from the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign, an M.S. in Communication from the Manipal Institute of Communication in India, and a B.A. in Economics, English Literature and Psychology from Mount Carmel College in India.

She has won numerous awards for her work in journalism, including a 2007 Edward R. Murrow Regional Award, a first place award for Best Feature from the Associated Press in 2004, and awards for Best Feature and second place In-depth Reporting from the Society of Professional Journalists in 2001.
