Jim Asendio
News Director
Jim Asendio joined WAMU 88.5 as news director in July of 2006. Prior to joining our news team, Jim served as news director at WLIU/WCWP on Long Island, KFBK in Sacramento and WIND in Chicago. He has also anchored or reported for the CBS Radio Network, KDKA in Pittsburgh, 1010WINS and WCBS Newsradio880 in New York City and KFWB in Los Angeles.
While still a teenager, Jim began writing and taking photos for community newspapers in Harlem and Queens, N.Y. He later studied newspaper journalism at Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism in Evanston, Ill.
Although Jim has reported on major international events, presidential campaigns, national political conventions, and major natural disasters, he is most proud of the number of young journalists he has mentored, trained, and nurtured who now are working at major newspapers and broadcast news operations.
Jim enjoys non-fiction; musical theatre; and most of all, spending lots of time with his wife, Marlee Miller, and daughters Laura and Dana. Jim can be reached at jasendio@wamu.org.
