Danielle Karson
Reporter
Danielle Karson begin work at WAMU 88.5 in 1986. She currently anchors the mid-morning newscasts.
As a reporter, she's covered stories dealing with politics, education, health, and the environment. Among her favorites: the arrival of the Giant Pandas and the birth of a baby Asian elephant at the National Zoo!
Danielle kicked off her career in radio news with an internship at NPR - an experience which proved to be more eventful than she anticipated. While pregnant with her first son, she produced a documentary called "Pregnancy In the '80s." It received the 1984 American Women in Radio and Television Award for best documentary. Her son was born shortly thereafter, prompting Danielle to call the experience a true "labor of love."
She grew up in Los Angeles, moving at age 14 to Paris, and later Zurich. She attended the American high schools in both cities and returned to Los Angeles to attend Loyola Marymount University where she majored in communications.
Danielle lives in Bethesda, Md., with her two sons, Sean and Patrick. In her spare time, she enjoys hiking on various trails throughout the Washington, D.C., area, including the Billy Goat Trail in Great Falls Park. She likes getting together with friends to wine and dine on the Georgetown waterfront and having picnics at Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts.
