WAMU’s Bluegrass Country marks 45 years of music with BGC Live at Forty-Five

WAMU’s Bluegrass Country announced today it will present BGC Live at Forty-Five, a bluegrass concert featuring The Del McCoury Band and The Gibson Brothers. The concert will take place at 8 p.m., Friday, Nov. 2, 2012, at The George Washington Lisner Auditorium (730 21st St. NW, Washington, D.C. 20052). Doors open at 7:30 p.m.

Hosted by Bluegrass Country hosts Katy Daley and Lee Michael Demsey, BGC Live at Forty-Five marks the 45th anniversary of the first bluegrass programming on WAMU and brings together two groups for a celebration of the station’s musical journey.

The most awarded group in the history of bluegrass music, The Del McCoury Band will take the stage as the evening’s headliner. Fronted by 2011 Bluegrass Hall of Fame inductee McCoury alongside four immensely skilled musicians—including sons Rob and Ron—The Del McCoury Band has received numerous accolades, including more than 30 International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) Awards, and a Grammy Award in 2006 for their album “The Company We Keep.” Lauded for their fierce musicianship and veteran McCoury’s authentic vocal delivery, the group has emerged onto the larger musical scene as a torchbearer for bluegrass and the genre’s history with a repertoire that includes hits spanning more than five decades.

Winners of the 2012 IBMA Entertainer of the Year Award, The Gibson Brothers, Eric and Leigh, are widely recognized as the finest brother duet in bluegrass music today. “Help My Brother,” the group’s 2011 release, is arguably the finest in the duo’s career, displaying the ensemble’s tight arrange¬ments and helping to further establish The Gibson Brothers as one of the most important bands in bluegrass music. In 2011, “Help My Brother” won IBMA’s Album of the Year Award, and the Gibson Brothers were named Vocal Group of the Year. Tickets are $40 and are available from the Lisner box office or online at lisner.org; all seating is reserved.
