D.C. Region Readies For 29th Annual National Night Out

National Night Out will be celebrated this evening across the D.C. region, as part of an effort to promote neighborhood spirit and partnerships between communities and local police forces.

In the District, the evening will include community cookouts, candlelight vigils and athletic contests.

Meanwhile in Maryland, a wide variety of events will mark the night. In Annapolis plans call for a moon bounce, obstacle course and face painting. Gov. Martin O'Malley will stop by two different celebrations, first in Bowie, and then in Shady Side in Anne Arundel County.

This is the 29th National Night Out, an event organizers say is designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness...and strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community relationships
