The first medals of the Olympic games in London will be awarded Saturday, and as the competitions continue, local bars hope the crowds grow as well.
"Hopefully, we'll have an increase in business," says Nathan Kazaiti, a bartender at a pub at Cleveland Park. "Everybody likes to rally around the Olympics."
"Probably late next week and the weekend -- I'm sure it'll be crunch time for all the teams, and everybody will get more excited," he says.
Bartender Chase Lynn has dealt with World Cups and Euro soccer tournaments, but he says the Olympics may bring bigger crowds.
"If nothing else, for the big soccer games and the swimming competitions, and the track and field, we're definitely going to get slammed for those," says Lynn.
Many local bars and restaurants are offering specials on food and Olympic themed drinks throughout the duration of the games, which end Aug. 12.
